Historical background of Tara Puja

This Tara Ritual was composed and compiled by the great South Indian Bodhisattva or Sidha popularly known as Nagarjuna, who appeared in this world 400 years after Buddha's Mahaparinirvana, and in accordance with the prophecy made by Buddha himself. The early records has it that Nagarjuna attained the highest level of realization by practicing the Tantric Teachings of Tara. The lineage of this powerful preventive Rituals of Tara has been passed down from Nagarjuna to a few fortunate Indian Buddhist masters including the historical Siddhi Jowo Je Atisha, who took this lineage to Tibet. The Tara Rituals thereafter was widely spread in Tibet by the followers of Jowo Atisha and to this day the lineage had been handed down from one authentic teacher to another which is well .

度母法會的緣起

此度母儀軌編制由偉大的大成就者龍樹菩薩集結，龍樹菩薩一如本師釋迦牟尼佛的預言；出生在佛滅度後400年，歷史上龍樹菩薩藉由修持度母教法達到最高的證悟。此加持力巨大的除障儀軌傳承由龍樹菩薩傳予多位印度佛教大師，當中包含將其傳承帶入西藏的阿底峽尊者，此後被廣泛流傳於阿底峽的追隨者，由諸多清淨的上師傳承至今。

Significance and benefits

Why need to practice this Ritual? Great Bodhisattva Nagarjuna said, ''This Ritual is an antidote to pacify the negativities caused by the power and wisdom of the deities and of the worldly beings. Similar to a Wish-fulfilling Jewels possessed by the Naga King, this Ritual can bring about all kinds of wishes to fruition. In events where evil-minded persons should bury your name under the statues, religious books, the stupas and even entrust you to the eight classical worldly deities to bring about harms to you or bad luck through powers of black magic etc, or in times that untold miseries such as famine should plague the communities and places of settlement, if you perform this Ritual with complete dedication and devotion, all these negativities will be prevented or avoided completely. It will be more powerful and effective if one can practice and perform the Ritual oneself or personally.''

意義和好處
為什麼要舉行這個法會？龍樹菩薩說：「此法威力強大且迅速，如解藥般，可安撫所有世間智慧及權勢鬼神眾生所造成的負面影響；如龍王的如意寶般，可使各種願望得以實現。在競爭時，若被他人懷惡心加害如埋葬名字於佛像、經典、佛塔，祭祀天龍八部甚者施以惡咒等等，使自身遭受厄運及危害，或者當一地區受饑荒等災難困厄時，如果人們親自參與並修持此儀式，所有這些負面力量將完全被阻止或避免。」

Lord Jowo Je Atisha said, ''If you perform this Ritual, you will not encounter any difficulties when you travel or make long journeys. The occurrence of wars, incidences of deadly diseases eruption, and befalling of bad lucks arising from bad designs and motivations of disrupting elements (both visible and invisible) in the places you dwell, the performing of this Ritual is the ultimate solution to all above unfavourable situations. If one performs this ritual, who has achieved confidence, and with all sincerity, one pointed devotion and unwavering belief, not only good luck will shower on you effortlessly, but the bad elements that would otherwise distract your desired achievement will be prevented from occurring. There is no other powerful rituals than this Tara Ritual performance that will help both fulfil your wishes and prevent all bad lucks.''

偉大的阿底峽說：「如果修持此儀軌，旅行或長途跋涉時不會遇到任何困難。若所在地戰爭發生、致命的疾病爆發、懷惡心的有形及無形眾生加害造成的運勢低落，所有上述不利的情況，此儀式可究竟降伏。如果以極大的信心、虔誠及些許供養舉行此法會，不僅良好的運氣將自然降臨；任何違緣皆會遠離。所有兼能滿願及除障的修持法中，無有威力更勝此之法」

Conclusion

This ritual has proven to be the most effective of antidotes to prevent the negative forces arising from black magic, bad dream, oppressive curses, bad omen, powerful worldly gods and evil spirits, great demons, epidemics and infectious diseases, bad year, bad month, bad day, bad hour and so forth. For a nation, the Drolma Ritual is also by far the most effective means to prevent occurrence of natural disasters related to four grand elements of Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind. In the recitation of the praises of twenty one Drolma manifestations, it is said that 'if one desires son, a son will be delivered; and if one desires wealth, the same will be delivered, in fact all wishes will be fulfilled, while all obstacles are simultaneously removed', by reciting the 21 Drolma praises at least 12 times. For best results, one should conduct the ritual without eating non vegetarian diet for 21 days, if not for 14 days, and so on for 7 days, 5 days and the least for 3 days.

結論
度母除障法會對於巫術、夢魘、惡咒、凶兆、世間鬼神、魔祟、傳染病、年月日時等造成的不祥及惡運，具有最強大的對治力。度母法會於使國家免於地水火風造成之自然災害的修法中，是最具威力的。二十一度母禮讚文中提及若能持誦禮讚文至少12次，則「如果希欲子嗣，則能得子；如果渴望財富，則能得財，所有的願望都會得到滿足，同時所有障礙都能遣除」。舉行法會時，為了達最佳效果，應斷除葷腥２１日、或十四日、七日、五日，少則三日。

The benefits of this ritual cannot be overemphasized, quantified or measured as it is the most powerful tools to prevent sources of all the temporal defilements / misfortunes and the most un-comparable cause for attaining the ultimate happiness and bliss for all sentient beings.

度母除障法會的功德利益無法量計，如何強調都不為過，對於世俗的雜染和惡運之源而言，是最具威力的遮止法，並是使一切有情眾生達到究竟的安樂之因。
